MAHALO & WELCOME!
Sr. Delfa Guillen,
after spending 11 years teaching in the school and helping us out with the
ministry at the Church, is taking a break. I understand she is moving on to
their convent in Waianae. Our heartfelt thanks to her! Sr. Novie Omictin
is joining our community. Let us extend to her a hearty welcome and we wish her
many years of fruitful ministry here.
NEW ELECTRONIC PIANO
One of our parishioners has donated a new
electronic piano and now we have no excuse for poor singing at our liturgies.
Thank you for your generosity. May the new piano help us to sing praises to God
from the heart.
BUILDING & MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE
I hope you are aware we have a maintenance and
building committee fully active under the leadership of John Braum. The
members of the committee are Norma Hara, Bill Neiderer and Jerry Angle.
One of the items on the agenda was to re-surface the parking lot. It is now
complete. Thanks for putting up with the inconvenience while the work was in
progress. The committee is actively engaged in getting the plans ready for the
new residence for the priests. I wish to put on record our sincere thanks for
all their commitment.
ELECTRONIC CANDLES
I had mentioned sometime ago about the need to
procure electronic candles for our candle room. That would prevent any fire
hazards. Our research shows that the initial investment could be high. We could
make up for it in the long run. An electronic candle-stand with forty
lights costs $6500.00. We might need three of them to meet our average
use. If any family or individual would like to donate a candle stand to the
Church, let me know. It would be a lasting memorial for a family or even a
single person.
GIFT SHOP
As you can see, the work on the gift shop is
proceeding. The re-surfacing of the parking lot delayed the work a little. Now
that the latter is over we can concentrate on the project. Jerry is working on
it with diligence. We hope to bless and start functioning on August 15, the
Feast of the Assumption of Our Blessed Mother.
Please help in keeping our Church facilities and
premises clean. The groups using our meeting rooms please take care to clean up
after you. We are putting in a lot of effort in this regard and your support is
paramount.
Prayers and blessings!
Fr. Tom
Prison Ministry
As Christians, we are called to tend to all who
are in need, not just those we find socially acceptable. We are called to look
for Christ in our brothers and sisters and to care for them with love, not just
as a task that must be carried out. Pray about it and
follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit … you can’t go wrong.
Prison Ministry
involves going once a week to the Halawa Correctional Facility to assist
in the celebration of Mass or a Communion Service with a deacon or trained
volunteer.
There is training on how to conduct
yourself, what to expect when you go, and forms to complete and be approved. You
also have to be certified by the Department of Public Safety with the State of
Hawaii. The Ministry is very much in need of volunteers and need your
help. You only commit to serving on one Sunday each month.
