Fr. Jon Cabico, my two younger brothers and I were born and raised on Oahu by parents who immigrated from the Philippines in their teens and met in Hawaii. I grew up in Kalihi Valley before our family moved out to Aiea, but we attended church at Our Lady of Good Counsel because it was physically closer to our home than St. Elizabeth. I attended Catholic schools from kindergarten (St. Anthony Home in Kalihi), to grade school (St. Theresa – Co-Cathedral), to high school (St. Louis). After going to electronics school and working a few years as a field engineer servicing copy machines, I went to college at Pacific University in Oregon, where I remained and worked for a Japanese semi-conductor manufacturing equipment company for about 6 years, finally moving back to Hawaii at the end of 2001 because of the three “F’s” I find important: Family, Friends, and Food (but not necessarily in that order). I enjoy listening to music, reading, golfing, racquetball, and, unfortunately, eating. I “heard” my “invitation” to serve as a priest at an MBCC retreat here in Hawaii in 2001, and that’s one of the reasons I felt a loyalty to serve as a diocesan priest for Honolulu, for which I was ordained in July of 2009. I am honored to be trusted with serving the St. Elizabeth Church community as a parochial vicar, and I look forward to some fulfilling years here, especially in celebrating the sacraments, slowing down the golf tournament (I play zig-zag golf), and meeting all the good people of my new parish home. All glory and honor to our Lord and God!
